Chemical Health Assessor

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Minnesota AIDS Project seeks a full–time Chemical Health Assessor. The Chemical Health Assessor assists HIV positive individuals in addressing chemical health concerns. This position provides chemical health counseling, Rule 25 assessments and reassessments, placements into treatment programs, planning and coordination of aftercare services and consultation for providers. Works with medical, social service and chemical health service providers throughout the community.

Desired Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in social work, public health, human services and/or an LADC.
  • Minimum of two years employment experience providing chemical health services in a position that involved carrying a caseload and the following duties: Chemical health assessments and reassessments, interdisciplinary care coordination, resource development, development and utilization of client–centered care plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge and experience in harm reduction philosophy and techniques.

Hours:
Full–time

CLEAR Counselor

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
The Minnesota AIDS Project seeks a counselor to work in its CLEAR (Choosing Life: Empowerment, Actions, Results) program targeted to young gay and bisexual men who are either HIV–positive or negative. The program goal is to reduce sexual and substance use risk behaviors and improve mental and physical health by working one to one with clients through a set series of program modules. The CLEAR Counselor will provide the CLEAR intervention to eligible high risk individuals from targeted population in order to (a) reduce HIV infections and related health risks particularly among young gay and bisexual men, and substance abusers, (b) increase knowledge of HIV status through referral to CTR and promote knowledge about living with HIV and self–care capacities.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working individually with clients and carrying a case load.
  • Background in human services, social work or chemical dependency.
  • Experience working with targeted population.

Hours:
Full–time

Communications Intern

This position will provide participants with a broad overview of nonprofit communications. At the end of the internship, participants will have work samples for a professional portfolio and increased their network of professional contacts in the Twin Cities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to writing and editing articles for external publications targeted to donors, healthcare providers, media outlets, and volunteers.
  • Write press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, and calendar advisories on an ongoing basis.
  • Follow–up written media materials to secure placement in local print and broadcast media outlets.
  • Supporting online communications efforts including social networking outreach.
  • Develop and maintain media contact list.
  • Participate in special event planning and implementation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Individual must have completed at least two years of college with a demonstrable emphasis in communications, public relations, journalism or English coursework.
  • Candidates should possess strong writing skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Hours:
Minimum of 12 week commitment—opportunities available on an ongoing basis. Flexible schedule of 15–40 hours per week—because this is a project–based internship, work may be completed both on– and off–site as required in order to complete assigned tasks.

This is an unpaid internship to provide experience in all aspects of nonprofit communications.

Public Policy Intern

Job Description:
This internship provides learning experiences for a person interested in working with the Minnesota AIDS Project's Public Policy Department.

Position requires a commitment of 8 hours per week. Benefits include excellent networking opportunities and the opportunity to gain first–hand experience in community organizing and legislative advocacy.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in organizing of community meetings
  • Research and legislative tracking
  • Assist with email advocate recruitment
  • Assist with 2010 voter mobilization
  • Assist with database management
  • Assist with web outreach (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etcÉ)
  • Other related duties

Desired Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of Minnesota's legislative process and community organizing principles.
  • Must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Computer skills are desired.

Additional Requirements:

  • Is present and available to work during hours agreed upon during the selection process, possibly some evenings and weekends.
  • Respects the confidentiality of all information about others (clients, volunteers and staff).
